The Burnaby School District is looking to hire a full-time Carpenter to work throughout the District. This position is responsible for a full range of carpentry work throughout the district including new construction, renovation/ alteration and maintenance of School District buildings and structures.

Applicants must have:

  • Grade 12 diploma (or equivalent)
  • Successful completion of the B.C. Apprenticeship Program and a valid BC or Interprovincial Journeyperson
  • Carpenter Trades Qualification (TQ) is required
  • Four years related work experience as a Journeyperson (post TQ)
  • Demonstrated training and work experience in current BC construction/maintenance safety requirements
  • Valid B.C. Driver's License (Class 5)
  • Experience in cabinet making (Joinery) is a definite asset
  • Experience using production line shop joinery equipment such as table saws, edger, joiner and dowel
  • machines are an asset.

Applicants are expected to:

  • Have thorough knowledge of construction and construction safety practices
  • Possess the physical condition and health to perform the duties and responsibilities of the job (including climbing ladders/scaffolds, and lifting and carrying heavy materials/objects)
  • Maintain good interpersonal skills and have good verbal and written communication skills
Applicants must be:
  • Knowledgeable of safety procedures and materials, methods and equipment related to carpentry
  • A self-starter with an ability to organize daily tasks, work independently and as a member of a team

This position pays $42.51 per hour, complemented by a comprehensive benefits package which includes dental, extended health benefits, pension, paid sick time, paid vacation time, education fund and other incentives.
