Position Summary

 

As a Carpenter, you will play a key role in executing construction activities on site, working closely with the site supervision team to deliver high-quality projects safely and efficiently. You will use your strong hands-on carpentry experience and understanding of construction methods and materials to produce accurate, high-quality work, while supporting the Foreman and Superintendent in driving site progress. In this role, you will contribute to a collaborative team environment, helping maintain productivity, safety, and quality standards, with opportunities for growth within Ventana Special Projects.

 

As a Carpenter your key accountabilities will involve:

 

  • Performing a wide range of carpentry tasks including framing, formwork, backing/blocking, parapet framing, layout, and finishing work.
  • Building and installing panels, footings, retaining walls, and stairs.
  • Reading and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to ensure accurate execution.
  • Operating hand and power tools safely and effectively, including nail guns and portable saws.
  • Assisting with layout, material handling, and installation to support site progress and meet project timelines.
  • Supporting general construction activities, including cleanup and demolition as required.
  • Working collaboratively with site supervision and trade partners to meet deadlines.
  • Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Adhering to and promoting Ventana’s Health & Safety program, including the use of PPE and participation in hazard assessments and toolbox meetings.
  • Supporting operation of site equipment such as telehandlers and manlifts (after training and certification).
  • Inspecting work for quality and identifying deficiencies.
  • Mentoring and supporting apprentice carpenters where applicable.
  • Participating in production and coordination meetings as required.
  • Completing other duties as assigned.

  • Your strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks effectively.


As a Carpenter your experience and qualifications will include:

 

  • 3–5+ years of carpentry experience within a general contracting environment.
  • Experience with framing, formwork, and finishing.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, tools, and general construction practices. (including site setup, pump setup, and weather protection).
  • The ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Having a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License with reliable transportation and willingness to travel across the Lower Mainland.
  • Familiarity with WorkSafeBC regulations and a strong safety mindset, including experience with safety documentation and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing work demands.
  • Red Seal certification or active apprenticeship (Level 4 preferred) is considered an asset.
  • Leadership experience or the ability to mentor and train apprentices is considered an asset.
  • OFA II and other safety certifications (e.g., fall protection) are considered assets.
  • Relevant equipment and safety tickets are considered assets.
