Location:  Pickle Lake, ON Canada
Rotation: 14 days on, 14 days off
Shift Length: 12 hours
Salary Range: $118,000 - $168,000/annum, range is variable and dependent on overtime worked and production bonus paid
Travel: Flight from airport closest to point of hire to Thunder Bay - Chartered flight to site
Accommodation: Remote Camp setting

Scope of work:

Complete the underground construction, installation, testing, and commissioning of the 1470mL Pump Station and associated dewatering infrastructure at Musselwhite Mine as part of the PQD Expansion 1 project.

The work includes installation of two cone sumps with ground support and shotcrete, structural steel cones and access platforms, sump covers and monorails, dewatering pump skids, sludge sump infrastructure, piping and pipe supports, and associated civil/structural works. The scope also includes power distribution, electrical, instrumentation, automation and communications systems, borehole cable installations, and dewatering piping from the 1080mL borehole to the 1045mL water reservoir.

Job Summary:
 

Reporting to the Construction Superintendent, the Underground Construction/Welder is responsible for direct or indirect support of mining operations by assuming responsibility for the assembling and welding steel components for various construction materials and components.  

 



Responsibilities

General:

  • Follow all established policies, procedures, and best practices as well as industry specific regulations

  • Always be physically and mentally fit for work

  • Produce quality work safely and efficiently

  • Read blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout and procedures

  • Set up components for welding according to specifications

  • Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded

  • Weld components using welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal, or overhead)

  • Inspect welded surfaces and structure for quality

  • Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety

  • The disassembly, repair and overhaul of heavy equipment implements such as buckets, clams, blades, truck trays as well as other associated tasks

  • Capable of successfully completing all skill tests required to demonstrate quality welding and fabrications skills as requested by the operation

Health and Safety: 

  • Having the authority and responsibility to maintain a safe and efficient working environment
  • Following Redpath Canada Limited health and safety standards and systems, including the Five Point Safety System and the Cardinal Rules, and reporting any unsafe acts or conditions
  • Responsible to ensure proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment required in the performance of the work.
  • Must have knowledge of the WHMIS legislation and know how to effectively use an MSDS sheet.
  • Comply with the Act and Mining Regulations that apply to the work area

 



Qualifications

 

  • Certifications: Certified welder status (e.g., CWB or regional equivalent) with specific position tickets (flat, vertical, overhead).
  • Ontario Basic Underground Hard Rock Miner – Common Core

  • Minimum of 3 years maintenance work experience as a Welder preferably in an underground mine setting

 

 Knowledge Required 

  • Ability to multitask and work effectively 

  • Ability to work efficiently as part of a team as well as independently

  • Basic Knowledge of the mining industry

  • Must be able to work both independently and cooperatively in a team environment

  • Ability to read, review and understand Standard Work Procedures, safety programs and applicable mine regulations

  • Basic understanding and ability to read civil prints and or construction prints

  • Must have the ability to adapt to change

  • Respectful of cultural differences
