Job Description

As NAIT continues to grow its student body and lead the way in hands-on learning, we are recruiting skilled and passionate individuals to help inspire and train current and future industry professionals and become part of Canada’s leading polytechnic. The School of Construction and Building Sciences is seeking a change oriented, team player to fill the role of continuous full-time instructor in the Gasfitter apprenticeship program. The NAIT Gasfitter apprenticeship program is a 3-period apprenticeship program providing exposure to new trends and technologies. The program prepares students to size, install, test, adjust and service natural gas and propane equipment ranging from residential furnaces to industrial boilers.

The Gasfitter apprenticeship program is seeking a continuous full-time instructor to deliver a variety of program content on a course-by-course basis.  Additional information about the courses offered can be found at Gasfitter Apprenticeship program.  Upon review of the courses offered in the program, if you see some alignment with your knowledge, skills, abilities, and passion, we would like to hear from you. The successful candidates will:

  • have strong technical knowledge

  • be able to work both independently and within a team environment

  • bring passion, enthusiasm, and ideas that will positively contribute to the advancement and growth of the program and the culture of our collaborative and dynamic team

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and present learning outcomes and activities in classroom and laboratory settings

  • Organize and supervise practical assignments

  • Facilitate the learning process by utilizing instructional strategies that ensure efficient and effective delivery of course materials

  • Manage instructional delivery and set the tone and climate for a safe and effective learning environment

  • Evaluate the learning process and provide meaningful feedback to students

  • Respond to student issues

  • Utilize appropriate educational technology for presentations, communications, and program promotions

  • Maintain professional and ethical relationships with students and colleagues

  • Actively participate in the strategies of NAIT’s Academic Model as identified by the institute

  • Utilize regular student feedback to identify and implement instructional improvement

  • Improve the quality of instruction through professional development activities

  • Participate in course reviews, program reviews and curriculum development

  • Maintain contact with relevant industries

Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive, respectful relationships with diverse learners and colleagues

  • A strong commitment to student success, including motivating learners and supporting academic achievement

  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, suitable for instructional, advisory, and collaborative settings

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and related educational technologies

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma

  • Completion of Gasfitter A or B Alberta Journeyperson certificate or provincial equivalent

  • Inter-Provincial Red Seal preferred

  • Minimum 5 years recent industry experience after completion of Journeyperson ticket.

  • Additional relevant post-secondary education and/or professional development training

  • Teaching experience preferred

Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services (WES), International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS) or the Comparative Education Services (CES).

Remuneration

Will commensurate with education and experience. Refer to salary range noted on this posting, plus a comprehensive benefits package. Note: starting salary for new instructor hires average mid-range based on education and experience.

Classification – Instructor

This position is covered by the NAIT Academic Staff Association (NASA) Collective Agreement.
