Salary range: $58,566- $76,059
Placement within the range is typically based upon a review of skills, experience, and internal equity. 
Hours per week: 36.25 
Paid leave: 3 weeks vacation per year

The Electronic Security Systems Technician is a hands‑on technical role responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electronic security systems across campus.
 
This position provides on‑site, boots‑on‑the‑ground support for electronic security infrastructure and supports the technical delivery of access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, intercom, and related systems.
 
Working under the direction of the Supervisor, Lockshop & Electronic Security, the Electronic Security Systems Technician ensures security systems are installed and maintained in accordance with established standards, designs, and operational requirements, while responding to service requests, incidents, and operational needs in a timely and professional manner

How you'll contribute

Installation and Field Work: 
  • Install, configure, test, and commission electronic security systems, including but not limited to: 
    • Access control systems (card readers, controllers, locks, door hardware interfaces).
    • CCTV and video surveillance systems.
    • Intrusion detection, duress alarms, and panic buttons.
    • Intercoms, emergency call stations, and related devices.
  • Perform cable pulling, termination, labeling, and device mounting in accordance with industry and safety standards
  • Support new construction, renovations, and retrofit projects by executing approved electronic security designs and drawings
  • Conduct on site system testing, validation, and troubleshooting prior to system handover
  • Lead and direct work of integrators and subtrades as required 
 
Maintenance and Operations: 
  • Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and firmware/software updates on electronic security systems
  • Diagnose and resolve system faults, device failures, and connectivity issues
  • Respond to service requests, incidents, and outages, including time sensitive security issues
  • Replace defective components and coordinate warranty or vendor repairs as required
  • Maintain system functionality to minimize downtime and operational risk
 
Technical Support and Troubleshooting:
  • Provide technical support to security, facilities, and campus stakeholders
  • Troubleshoot issues related to system hardware, cabling, power, networking, and device configuration
  • Escalate complex issues appropriately while providing detailed technical information and findings
  • Support emergency response activities by ensuring systems are operational and restored quickly
  • Support audits, inspections, and system reviews by providing technical information and on-site assistance
  • Support the Access & Security Systems Administrator in receiving, vetting, and completing access requests within multiple systems during peak periods or as coverage when required.
 

Documentation and Records: 

  • Maintain accurate records of installations, changes, repairs, and maintenance activities
  • Update drawings, asset records, and system documentation following field work
  • Record work completed through the designated work order or service management system
  • Document troubleshooting steps and resolutions for knowledge sharing and continuity

What you bring

  • Diploma in Electronics, Electrical Technology, Security Systems, or a related technical discipline.
  • 3-5 years of hands-on experience working with electronic security systems in an operational environment.
  • 3-5 years of experience installing and maintaining access control and CCTV systems.
  • Manufacturer training or certifications (e.g., access control or video management platforms). 
  • Practical knowledge of electronic security systems and components.
  • Experience with cabling standards, termination, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and system layouts.
  • Familiarity with IP‑based security systems and basic networking concepts.
  • Comfortable using hand tools, test equipment, and diagnostic software.
