POSITION SUMMARY

Working under the supervision of Maintenance Work Team Leader, the Industrial Electrician Apprentice is responsible for demonstrating the knowledge, skills and professional capability necessary to successfully complete the Skilled Trades Ontario apprenticeship program and become a Licensed Electrician. The Industrial Electrician Apprentice plays a key role in supporting the Maintenance department with the servicing and maintenance of industrial production equipment and machinery.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assist licensed electrician(s) with the install, repair, maintenance and troubleshooting of CNC, wood processing equipment, and other numerically controlled industrial machines

  • Evaluate, prepare and execute preventive and predictive maintenance schedules

  • Use measuring equipment and hand tools to perform conduit work

  • Install, repair and replace electrical wiring, receptacles, conduits and other electrical components

  • Test, repair and install electrical motors, transformers, and electrical control systems

  • Test electrical equipment and components for voltage, amperage, resistance, and continuity

  • Resolve electrical problems logically, and demonstrate machine flow

  • Assess parts needed to repair equipment and create purchase requests

  • Identify and report hazards and fulfill all Health & Safety, WHMIS, MSDS, and company policy requirements

  • Document, repair, set-ups, maintenance and PM to ensure equipment reliability

  • Ensure working area, tools and equipment are used and stored in a clean, organized and safe manner

  • Work effectively with the Engineering, Production and Quality teams to ensure effective and timely machine change overs and set-ups

  • Ensure all safety guidelines related to manufacturing equipment servicing are followed

  • Follow MillerKnoll disposal procedures for proper disposal of any hazardous items

  • Follow all shop floor controls

  • Ensure all safety related issues are communicated to the Maintenance Work Team Leader

  • Follow all MillerKnoll safety policies and protocols

  • Maintain a clean, safe, working environment according to 5s principles and department safety guidelines

  • Maintain and follow the ISO standard operating procedures

  • Participate in and contribute to the continuous improvement process

*Additional responsibilities as requested by Management to achieve business objectives.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience

  • Post-Secondary Education or equivalent required

  • Successful completion of a Skilled Trades Ontario recognized Electrical in-school training program

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Abilitty to communicate effectively (both written and verbal)

  • Knowledge of PLC, VFD, CNC and servo systems

  • Knowledge of LOTO protocol a must

  • Must be able to read and interpret drawings, sketches, OEM manuals and related technical data

  • Ability to use precision measuring tools including tape measure

  • Ability to consistently demonstrate a high attention to detail

  • Computer proficiency with the ability to manipulate and save files

  • Ability to manipulate mathematical data using addition, multiplication and subtraction

PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to complete work tasks that require strong manual dexterity

  • Must be able to stand while working for long durations of time, up to three (3) hours at a time

  • Physical lifting ability up to 50 lbs.

  • Must be able to perform duties while wearing all necessary Personal Protective Equipment as determined by MillerKnoll’s Health and Safety department

  • Must be able to perform in an environment with high levels of exposure to manufacturing noise, dust and heat

  • Ability to work in a multi-shift environment including flexible hours and weekends, as required

  • Must have flexibility to work varied hours and overtime to meet production requirements

Compensation range for this role is $30.00 - $40.00. Relevant salary considerations will include candidate qualifications and experience, other business/organizational needs and market factors.
