Role Summary:
Bouchier is seeking a Journeyman Electrician for our CNRL Horizon site to support the HVAC department with preventative maintenance activities.
Reporting to the Superintendent and General Foreman, this role involves performing detailed inspections, testing, and servicing of electrical components associated with HVAC equipment, such as motors starters, VFDs, control panels, sensors, power distribution equipment, and wiring.
The electrician will assist with identifying early signs of electrical degradation, verifying proper voltage and amperage levels, tightening and replacing electrical terminations, and ensuring compliance with electrical codes and safety standards. Responsibilities include both indoor and outdoor assignments as directed by supervision, while maintaining strict adherence to safety practices and efficient completion of maintenance tasks.
Collaboration is a key component of this role. The successful candidate will work closely with an HVAC technician to document system conditions, identify operational issues, and recommend corrective actions. The electrician’s expertise ensures that HVAC equipment receives proper electrical supply, that controls and safety are functioning correctly, and that preventative maintenance tasks are completed accurately and thoroughly. This position contributes to smoother service visits, improved safety outcomes, and enhanced reliability of HVAC systems across the facility.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Follow procedures as outlined in the CEC (Canadian Electrical Code)
- Perform detailed inspections, testing, and servicing of electrical components associated with HVAC equipment.
- Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical/electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures using appropriate hand and power tools.
- Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components using test equipment and hand tools to determine the cause of failures and complete corrective repairs.
- Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
- Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, and other components.
- Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, required adjustments or repairs, and ensure compliance with applicable codes.
- Advise management when continued operation of equipment may present hazards.
- Test electrical systems and circuit continuity using tools such as multimeters and megohmmeters to ensure system compatibility, performance, and safety.
- Use a variety of equipment including construction power tools, measuring devices, multimeters, megohmmeters, and other testing instruments.
- Install ground leads and connect power cables to motors, transformers, circuit breaker panels, disconnects, and other equipment.
- Repair or replace wiring, equipment, and fixtures using appropriate tools.
- Read and interpret electrical, mechanical, and architectural drawings, as well as electrical code specifications, to determine wiring layouts.
- Cut, thread, bend, assemble, and install conduits and other electrical conductor enclosures and fittings.
- Position, install, and maintain distribution and control equipment such as switches, relays, circuit breaker panels, and fuse enclosures.
- Perform lockout/tagout of electrical systems for all trades as required.
- Assist other trades and perform additional duties as assigned by supervision.
Education & Experience:
- Valid Alberta Journeyman Electrician Ticket or Red Seal Certification is required.
- 4+ years’ experience within Residential or Commercial Construction Projects
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License is required.
- High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred.
- Knowledge with computers: Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel
- Excellent communication and Customer Service skills.
- Must be able to work in a variety of conditions.
- Industrial or commissioning experience would be considered an asset
- Background in automation and controls would be considered an asset
