Pipelayer – Underground Utilities Construction

Key Responsibilities
As the Pipelayer, you will support the installation and maintenance of underground utility systems, ensuring work is completed safely, accurately, and in accordance with project specifications.

Pipe Installation & Layout

  • Lay out, assemble, and install underground utility pipelines according to blueprints, specifications, and grade requirements.
  • Cut, align, and position pipes while ensuring proper slope and alignment using levels, lasers, and other precision tools.

Excavation & Site Preparation

  • Dig trenches and prepare work areas using hand tools and heavy equipment to support safe and efficient pipe installation.
  • Work safely in deep trenches while maintaining awareness of surrounding equipment and site conditions.

Inspection & Quality Control

  • Conduct inspections and pressure testing to ensure installed pipelines meet quality standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify and address any installation issues to maintain the integrity and performance of the system.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all Occupational Health & Safety regulations and company safety policies, maintaining a strong focus on safe work practices.
  • Carry out daily tasks in alignment with foreman direction, ensuring hazards are identified and mitigated.

Team Collaboration & Site Support

  • Work closely with foremen, equipment operators, and crew members to complete tasks efficiently and meet project timelines.
  • Support overall site operations by assisting with additional duties as required to ensure project success.

Qualifications
To succeed in this role, candidates should demonstrate:

Education & Experience:

  • 3–5 years of experience in underground utility construction or as a pipelayer/helper.
  • Experience working in deep utility installations and trench environments is required.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and utility locates.
  • Proficiency in using pipe lasers, levels, and trenching tools, with familiarity working around heavy equipment.
