ABOUT THIS CAREER OPPORTUNITY

Black & McDonald’s Facility Management & Operations team is expanding! We are seeking committed, collaborative professionals who are eager to contribute to a hardworking and innovative team. We currently have a Security Technician position available in the Ashton, Ontario area.

The Security Technician position typically reports directly to the Maintenance Team Lead or designate. Their primary focus is supporting the safe, reliable and compliant operation of critical security systems across the site. This role includes installing, maintaining, inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing a wide range of electronic security and access control technologies, as well as administering network‑related functions such as routing and switching, network security, campus/enterprise interconnectivity, firewall configuration, commercial encryption, internet access, and voice/video traffic management. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Conduct routine property and site inspections to ensure safety, security, and overall operational integrity.
  • Install, maintain, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair electronic security and access control systems (EID, EAC, CCVE, RFID locksets, perimeter systems, etc.).
  • Perform scheduled and on‑demand maintenance and testing of security infrastructure and related components.
  • Recommend system upgrades, improvements, and life‑cycle replacements; implement approved changes.
  • Administer network‑related tasks supporting security systems, including routing, switching, firewall configuration, and system connectivity.
  • Manage software updates, licenses, and the reintegration of security systems onto the site network.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders; order materials and maintain inventory as required.
  • Monitor and respond to alarms from BAS, fire alarm systems, and security systems; escalate urgent issues promptly.
  • Complete required documentation, service reports, and daily communication logs, ensuring accurate and clear recordkeeping.
  • Provide on‑call support, respond to emergencies, and assist with general site services as required.
  • Site services include: pest management, landscaping and grounds, waste management, water sampling, snow and ice control, pool maintenance, utilities, fencing and gate maintenance.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Certified Alarm Technician (CAT I) or (CAT II), and ESA Certified Security Systems Integrator (CSSI), or an equivalent qualification.

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • 2–3 years of hands‑on experience installing, servicing, and troubleshooting electronic security systems, including: Electronic Intrusion Detection (EID), Electronic Access Control (EAC), Closed-Circuit Video Equipment (CCVE), Electronic key monitoring systems, Lighting and gate controls, Integrated security management platforms, RFID electronic locksets, and Perimeter security fences and gates
  • Experience working with major security platforms and technologies such as DSC, SIS, Shure Guard, Hirsch Identiv, Morse Keywatcher, Bosch, Panasonic, and Genetec.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
  • Working knowledge of IP networking, PoE, and basic computer systems.

SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Excellent customer service skills in ensuring client requests are responded to professionally and promptly.
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces and/or working at heights.
  • Be able to balance multiple priorities in a high-pressure environment while meeting strict contract performance objectives.
  • Provide technical maintenance expertise, compliance & documentation skills along with agility, adaptability, problem-solving under pressure, time management and client relationship management skills.
  • Strong diagnostic skills to identify and resolve system faults efficiently and effectively.
  • Bending and lifting (under 30kg) required.
  • Valid driver’s license is required.
  • The hours of operation for the new contract are 06:00 to 18:00 hrs, with two potential shifts. 06:00 – 14:30 hrs, or 09:30 – 18:00 hrs
  • This position will also participate in an on-call rotation to support on-site coverage.

Due to contractual requirements, candidates must be Canadian Citizens who are able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance (Canadian Citizen with 10 years of continuous residency within Canada).

This position’s wage rate follows the 787 Union Agreement schedule.
