Maintenance I&C Electrician

Defined Shift: Mon-Friday 8 hours Shift, on call

Job Overview:


Reporting to the Maintenance lead, the I&C Electrician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting and performing breakdown recovery work for the plant equipment to ensure the smooth operation of equipment in the facility. This role requires experience in industrial electrical systems to troubleshoot, repair, install, and maintain equipment used in the monitoring and control of processing equipment. This is an on-call support role, with Monday- Friday 8-hour shifts.


Key Responsibilities:


Preproduction activities include:

  • Assist in equipment installation and setup.
  • Support the definition of preventive maintenance (PM) requirements, spare parts lists, and work order system needs.
  • Contribute to writing SOPs and maintenance work permits.
  • Participate in Functional Acceptance Testing (FAT) as required.
  • Complete all pre-production training.

 

Postproduction activities include:

  • Assist in installing and assembling plant equipment (pumps, agitators, shredders, crushers, milling systems, etc.).
  • Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on electrical and mechanical equipment to reduce downtime.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical issues involving motors, VFDs, PLCs, sensors, switches, flow meters, and related devices.
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical failures using appropriate diagnostic tools and test equipment.
  • Support millwrighting tasks and perform mechanical installations or repairs within qualification scope.



Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all safety procedures, including lock-out/tag-out (LOTO).
  • Support facility-wide environmental, safety, and compliance efforts.

 

Equipment Installation, Upgrades & Documentation

  • Assist with installing new equipment and implementing system upgrades to improve operational efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, including repairs, inspections, and parts usage.
  • Collaborate with operators, production teams, and maintenance staff to resolve equipment issues and complete work orders.
  • Communicate equipment status, required repairs, and parts needs to supervisors and management.

 

Qualifications:

  • 442A Industrial Electrician Certification required
  • 447A instrumentation and controls certification preferred
  • Experience troubleshooting PLC/HMI and performing basic programming adjustments 
  • Minimum 5 years of industrial maintenance experience, ideally in metal recycling or manufacturing.
  • High school diploma or GED; technical training in electrical/mechanical systems preferred.
  • Dual-ticket Millwright/Electrician is a strong asset.


Specific Skills

Technical:

  • Strong knowledge of industrial electrical systems, including motor controls, PLCs, VFDs, and related components.
  • Ability to troubleshoot PLC/HMI systems and perform basic programming adjustments.
  • Understanding of mechanical troubleshooting (hydraulics, pneumatics, general mechanical systems).
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical blueprints, electrical schematics, and technical documentation.


Working Conditions:

  • This position may require working in outdoor or indoor environments, with exposure to noise, dust, and varying weather conditions.
  • The job may involve shift work, weekend shifts, or on-call availability depending on operational needs.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times.


 

The base compensation offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
