What you'll be challenged to do:

As a Senior Technical Designer, you will be a pivotal figure in driving innovation and transformation. This role is not confined to a single project phase, offering the opportunity to influence the full lifecycle—from design to development and construction documentation to contract administration. This is a technical, production-focused role. It is best suited for candidates who are passionate about construction documentation, detailing, and technical problem-solving.

In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Production of complete construction drawing packages from concept through to planning approvals for various building types from conception to completion.
  • Translate design into clear, coordinated, and buildable documentation.
  • Develop and detail wall assemblies, building envelope systems, and critical junctions with a strong focus on constructability and performance.
  • Coordinate with structural, mechanical, electrical, and civil consultants to produce fully integrated drawing sets
  • Identify and resolve technical issues early, ensuring drawings are accurate, complete, and aligned across disciplines
  • Prepare planning approval and permit submission packages, ensuring compliance with municipal requirements and the Ontario Building Code
  • Perform rigorous QA/QC reviews of drawing sets prior to submission or issue
  • Support construction through shop drawing review, RFIs, site instructions, and site coordination
  • Contribute to maintaining and improving drawing standards, templates, and technical workflows.
  • Collaborate on multiple projects with internal team members and external consultants, taking projects from design development to construction completion.
  • Provide specialized knowledge by advising on materials, technology, and processes involved in building design, while applying a thorough understanding of building science methodologies.
  • Assist with construction administration activities, including shop drawing review, specifications, and site instructions.
  • Stay at the forefront of industry advancements by keeping up-to-date with legislation, standards, and technological innovations in the field.
  • Exhibit strong leadership and relationship-building skills.

What you will bring to our firm:

  • Diploma from an accredited Architectural Technologist Program or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently produce full drawing sets from concept through IFC
  • Knowledge of Building envelope systems (waterproofing, air/vapour barriers, thermal performance)
  • Knowledge of Wall assemblies, detailing, and constructability
  • Knowledge of Ontario Building Code and local planning/permit processes
  • 15+ years of relevant and related experience is preferred.
  • Advanced skills with Revit.
  • Specialized knowledge of AutoCAD, MicroStation, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office applications.

What we prefer you bring:

  • Demonstrated high-level problem-solving abilities and analytical skills.
  • Exceptional communication skills that facilitate effective mentoring and team leadership.
  • Experience in receiving executive coaching, setting the stage for your legacy building and visionary leadership in architectural design.
